Simple Tasks to Optimize Your Shiny New Website – Numbers 3 and 4

As the title of this post suggests we gave you two tip top tips (try saying that quickly!) on how to optimize a brand new website a couple of weeks ago. This is the follow-up post and, funnily enough, it contains points 3 and 4. 3. Cram it Full of Flippin’ Good Content There is no getting away from the need for good quality, relevant content. You can spend your life trying to build links to a website but, you know what, it is only going to generate sales, or raise interest levels, or insight revolution… whatever it’s purpose, your site will only achieve success if it actually has something to say and it says it well. Text should be high quality and unique – so by all means look at other websites to get some inspiration but UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES simply copy and paste chunks of someone else’s text into yours. If you laughed at that you might be surprised how often people want to do this when they create a new site but that is the very definition of content that is NOT unique and it will do you no SEO favours. Text should contain your keywords but be written primarily for visitors rather than search engines. If it really is relevant to what you are doing and your website is well targeted then keywords will naturally appear often enough. 4. Name Your Image Files Well Don’t forget that Google shows image results as well as text results of all searches. If your images files are called DSC18574.jpeg then we shouldn’t need to tell you that it is unlikely to show up in anyone’s search results. If the image is called large-black-dress-hat.jpeg then it might just be what someone is looking for and, in naming it this way, you just might have a chance of appearing in their results. Using title tags and alt tags for images are another good way to give them a kick up the SEO.
