Simple Tasks to Optimize Your Shiny New Website – numbers 5 and 6

Over the past few weeks we’ve provided some golden nuggets of information (4 to be precise) that could help you on the right road towards optimizing a brand new website. This is the third and final installment in this series of posts, containing points 5 and 6. If you find this post helpful you may wish to take a look at our other tips by following the links at the end. If you don’t, well maybe we can’t please everyone (no matter how hard we try). Promote Your New Site Via Your Social Networks Yes, we’re talking about Facebook, Twitter, forums etc when we say ‘social network’ but don’t forget about the real world either. Tell your friends about your new website, discuss it in the pub if it’s appropriate or, if not, you can still hand out business cards with your url when at meetings or business events. Now we’ve dealt with the real world, back to our area of expertise; it’s always a great idea to start a blog. More than likely, in the course of creating all the wonderful content that fills the pages of your new site you will have come up with a few ideas that didn’t make the final cut. These don’t have to be wasted ideas and could form the basis for blog posts. Whatever your strategy for creating blog content, make sure that it is not only relevant to the homepage of your site but try to create links, within posts, that link to other pages from time to time. Also be sure to promote your blog posts on other social networking sites; Tweet a link to your latest post, sync your blog with your LinkedIn profile and look for other unique ways to take your words to the people! Don’t Use Flash Our final tip is a short one – if you want to be able to optimize your site stay away from Flash because it is all but invisible to search engines. A good, easy-to-use content management system is the best way to go. Find this post useful? Check out our previous tips: 1 and 2 3 and 4
